Infrafloor is now offering a wonderful new underlayment for heated floor projects that is incredibly versatile and handy for almost any type of flooring insulation.  It is ideal for installation below radiant floor heat for many reasons.

First, with an R value of 1.5, it insulates cold subfloors, allowing the electric floor heating to rise up quicker for fast heat up times.  Second, it is up to 25 times lighter than the ¼ backerboard that you might be thinking about using as a part of the subfloor for underfloor heating.  Third, it has excellent acoustical and crack suppression, keeping things quiet and tight.  Fourth, it comes in easily manageable sheets (2’ X 4’), which all lay very flat, being about 3/16” thick.  Fifth, the unique underlayment does not allow for rot, mold, mildew or moisture, which supports the “floor heating for a lifetime” approach that we have at Infrafloor.  It is also very stable through changes of temperature, which is an obvious key as cold tiles or laminates are converted to heated floors with the radiant floor heating.  It also does not change after repeated impact loads and has an ability to absorb high energy impacts. Lastly, it is also an environmentally friendly product, being free of all VOCs.

In terms of the versatility, Cerazorb ® can be installed under tile, stone or marble, by simply bonding Cerazorb ® to the subfloor with a latex-modified thin-set mortar.  Then you can install the heated floors on top of the Cerazorb ® with a thin-set mortar and set your tile or stone.  You can also install Cerazorb ® under floating laminate or woods very easily, by floating two layers of the Cerazorb ® (staggering the seams), taping the seams of the Cerazorb ®, and then installing the recommended floor warming system for your application.  Finally, you can install your floating floor.
